ATTENDANCE
Regular school attendance is an important factor in student success at Highland Elementary. We encourage families to link arms with us in this effort. Please see the Madison County Schools Student Handbook for detailed policy. For admittance after an absence at Highland, each student is required to see the Attendance Clerk for readmittance to school. We have a new online absence form to help make the process of parent notes more efficient. Please note that this form is not provided for medical excuses. You may either upload your student's doctor excuse or turn in to the Attendance personnel.

How do I know if my child is late?
- Students are expected to be in their seat by the 7:30 a.m. tardy bell.
- If your child is not welcomed by a faculty member at their car door before the bell, you must come inside to sign them in.
How do I know when to turn in an excuse?
- An excuse must be turned in for every full day that your child is absent from school upon return.
How can I turn in an excuse?
An excuse may be submitted by:
- Our online excuse form
- A written note/medical excuse can be put in your child's folder
Per our Madison County School District handbook, after 15 days of absences, a student's absence may only be excused with a medical excuse.
ACTIVE PARENT
All parents can now have access to ActiveParent, a web-based application which allows you to view student's grades, attendance, discipline, and news.
To register for this service, parents can complete the necessary form from the District Form and submit it to the school office.
To login, go to the Active Parent link. Your username will be your last name with the last four digits of your social security number (or the 4 digits you told the district to use). Your password is the password you inserted on your registration form. If you already have an active parent account and would just like to add a student, you do not need to create another account, just check the appropriate box on the registration form. You only have to sign up for ActiveParent once, the account will follow your child all the way to graduation.
